A Legacy of Excellence
in Equine Care

Over 100 Years of Grazing Tradition & Four Decades of Equine Expertise

Nestled in the heart of the South West Slopes, Redbank North has long been recognised for its rich and fertile grazing land, spanning 1,300 acres (520 hectares) of some of the country’s finest pastures. Established over a century ago, Redbank North continues to build on this legacy under the ownership and stewardship of James and Fiona Middleton, who took the reins in 1979.
For more than 35 years, Redbank North has provided an exceptional environment for the spelling of racehorses and broodmares, allowing them to thrive in a natural, spacious setting. The success of this operation led to the expansion of our equine services in 1998, with dedicated areas for the development and growth of weanlings and yearlings.
In 2007, the Middleton family extended their land with the acquisition of Wirrilla, adding an additional 520 acres (208 hectares) of lush alluvial river flats along the Murrumbidgee River. These premium pastures have become a cornerstone of our ongoing commitment to providing the best environment for our horses.
While superior bloodlines are essential in producing elite racehorses, Redbank North offers the staff, experience, and most importantly, the ideal environment to help these equine athletes develop into their full potential.
We are proud to partner with Dr Ken Jacobs and the team from South West Slopes Veterinary Services for performance, surgical and rehabilitation services, along with Dr. Hadley Willsallen for specialised surgical procedures. Dr. Coco Willsallen provides expert care in reproductive and neonatal services. With their combined support, we deliver comprehensive medical, rehabilitation, and breeding care for spellers, foals, weanlings, yearlings, and broodmares, ensuring the highest standard of care for all horses at Redbank North.
Redbank North is a family-run operation, with James and Fiona’s daughter Katrina, her husband Matt, and their three children Billy, Evie, and Eustie managing the day-to-day care and management of the horse and properties
.
For over four decades, James and Fiona have been active participants in the racing industry, breeding, training, and racing thoroughbreds. Their deep understanding of the vital role a spelling farm plays in a horse’s training and recovery has led them to breed multiple stakes winners, including their first Group 1 winner, Single Gaze, in 2016.
Conveniently located near the village of Jugiong, on the Hume Highway. Redbank North is just a 3.5-hour drive from Sydney, 5.5 hours from Melbourne and only 1.5 hours from Canberra. Its prime location also offers easy access to major studs in the Hunter Valley and Victoria, making Redbank North a trusted name in equine care for thoroughbred owners and trainers across Australia.
